Replace the batteries
in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors every 6 months. Perform
operation tests every 3-6 months.
When Choosing A Contractor
Hire only licensed contractors to perform repairs and installations. Although there may be cheaper options available, these individuals may not be licensed, bonded, or insured. What this means to the consumer: 1.) INSURANCE. Installations by unlicensed/uninsured individuals result in the consumer becoming the legal responsible party if there are damages and/or injuries caused by poor or improper installations. Injuries to the person working at your home or business also become your responsibility. Licensed contractors carry Workers Compensation insurance that protects their employees. 2.) LICENSING. All licensed contractors have to pass written exams ensuring their understanding of the field in which they are to become licensed as well as provide proof of 4 years experience in this field. 3.) BONDS. Bonding is a requirement by the Registrar of Contractors (ROC). It provides that the contractor will perform the work or return the monies owed to the consumer. A bond for each license a contractor holds must be on file with the ROC to keep the license valid. Please, for your protection, check out the contractor or individual you plan to hire for your project by clicking the ROC quick link in the side bar. Good Luck!
◊
All AFCIs and GFCIs
whether circuit-type or breaker-type, should be installed by a
qualified electrician. ◊Test
AFCIs and GFCIs after installation and once a month thereafter to
make sure they are working properly.
◊Replace
defective AFCIs and GFCIs immediately. A defective device may create
a false sense of security to those who do not know that it is
non-functional.
◊Choose
AFCIs and GFCIs that carry the label of an independent testing
laboratory and always follow the manufacturers instructions.
